Chilly Wanderings

Post by Vineda »

A frigid gaze swept a cool land of unbroken snowdrifts ahead, shifting to frosted evergreen trees that began dotting the landscape in the distance. Long had it been since he'd stepped hoof on this land, and he inhaled deeply, letting the scents wash over his being with relish. There was something mingling amidst the pine and snow and chilly breeze that was wholly unique to this place.

He mused over what it was he searched for here for just a moment, before a logical tone in his brain answered that obviously it was an adventure to revisit this most beloved place and a desire for interaction. No way of knowing who he'd find (or not) here, whereas at home the Bond he shared with his family gave it away all too easily.

Looking to stretch muscles too long rested, he shifted into an easy lope across the glittery snow and grinned at the physical effort it took to fly over it. The snow was deeper than one might guess. As he moved the snow seemed to rumble forward a bit around him, flying with his momentum as thought itching to follow through with his momentum and create a rampage of his namesake.

It wasn't too long after his bond-brother left that the golden stallion decided that he felt like going along for company. He waded through the snow in Avalanche's tracks, much less at home in the fluffy whiteness. Whereas the white one emitted a constant coolness, Sunray tended to constantly give off a noticeable amount of heat... And here, it was making traveling a bit slushy.

He chuckled and watched tiny swirls of steam rise from the surface of any snow he touched for a length of time. He chuckled even louder as he glanced back up and noticed the path Av had left in his wake. Guess he'd been having a bit of fun as well. A wide stretch before him was swept forward along the hoofprints as though a wave had smoothed over it and shoveled it ahead with some force. An avalanche without a slope, grand. Picking up his pace, he followed the steps before him with mirth, leaving small melty spots behind.

The white stallion could feel his bond-brother behind him in the distance, but he was having too much fun diving through the snowbanks to give it up now! He also knew that this particular brother would probably appreciate his clearing the path a bit. He snickered to himself, shaking his head. Much nicer to be a chilly fellow like himself and enjoy the cold flakes all around. Enough strong sunshine or balmy conditions and Avvie began feeling downright stifled.

He spun around in a couple circles, envying those with wings for just a few moments as he imagined what kinds of shapes they were making visible from above. Pulling out of a particularly exuberant twist, and wearing a layer of snow that made him look downright fluffy, Avalanche headed back in the direction he'd come from. Perhaps he'd hide along the way and pounce on the golden boy with a pile of snow...

The golden stallion worked hard to traverse even the hoofprinted snow. Usually a covering of snow was simply like sand to travel through, but this was a bit much. It was up past his knees and hocks in many places, and a cold wind seemed to have started up, making a fine dusting of tiny glittering snowflakes fly across the land like fairy powder... no, that wasn't right. This wind, the sound it made sweeping though the trees, shaking them roughly... This wind seemed too angry for fairies.

Not too far off, Avvie increased his pace and stopped encouraging the snow to move with him. This was turning into a bit of a blizzard, and his brother definitely wasn't going to like this much!
