Watercolor Wonder

Take your Serians here to chat or just roam their homeland.
The sun glitters above vast fields ringed by verdant forests to the north, mountains to the south and east, and wide rivers to the west.

Watercolor Wonder

Post by Vineda »

|| Not sure where it’ll lead; looking to get to know this beauty more, open to any and all who feel like joining in.

A lone figure waded slowly into the calm waters of a fairly large pond dotted with willows on the shores. She’d come here for peace after a hubbub of activity and socializing that resulted from unwittingly walking into a rather large family. Still, it was a large place, this new home of hers. There would be plenty of time to explore and find a place to call her own.

As her advance into the cool waters ceased, tendrils of faint rainbow hues reaching down to knees and hocks floated this way and that with the gentle swirls in the water. There she stood, dreaming of this and that, letting her mind wander over all the recent changes. She wondered how the other Silent Songs were settling in to their new bondhomes.

Silver eyes glinted in the overcast light thrown off by a sun struggling to poke through the puffy layer of steel clouds above, and as Reverie’s mind wandered farther she closed them. In the back of her mind she drank in the quiet calls of the birds and insects also enjoying the beauty of this place, the rustle of the tall grasses lining the shores, and the gentle laughter of the water tickling the banks...

Change was thick in the air lately. Lace couldn't make up her mind whether she was content with how things have progressed or not. This new land was unfamiliar to her, as it was to all of them. And not only were they inhabiting a new world, they had intertwined their bonds with the native beings of this new world. It was like the merging of two families, only the two were entirely different species. Many of her fellow members were thrilled about this new adventure. Lace wasn't sure she was.

Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. The scent of cool waters and damp soil filled her nostrils, and her ears adjusted to the whispering of the wind. As she opened her eyes, ripples spread out along the shore of the pond, evidence of a disruption in the still water's surface. Looking up, she could see a figure in the distance, walking slowly into the depths of the pond.

Do be careful. We still know very little about these lands and what surprises they may bring us. she snorted, without saying a word. The figure was one she was quite familiar with, though it had been some time since she had crossed paths with one of her own since coming here. Silver eyes peered out from a charcoal grey face. Long, almost peach-colored hair flowed in waves along the water's surface from her mane and tail. Lace recognized her instantly despite the distance between them. The space didn't matter, as her voice would be heard internally should the recipient allow it.

Lace was serious by nature, most of the time anyway. She carried herself as if she were the most mature, responsible Serian of her family. She was not, but no one else needed to know that. The beauty of a brand new home was that she could put on whatever outward appearance she liked now. In truth, she liked to have more fun than she would admit. Seeing one of her own wading into the water made it hard to not leap to her feet and do the same. This wasn't the time or the place, though. Part of her still didn't trust this place or its native inhabitants. It would take some time before she'd feel at home here.

|| Hope it's okay! Really wasn't sure how to explain their new home, so if I should change anything let me know!~

An echo in her mind brought her up short, making a flinch run across her body from head to flank. Reverie turned her silvery glare on the one who'd interrupted her beautiful musings. Her eyes fell on the figure on the banks, admiring the good looks in the space of a heartbeat before pondering her unspoken words. Responding in kind, there was not much time set aside for contemplation. Nonsense, can you not feel the pull of the distant mountains on your bones, the waters on your blood? The earth beneath your very hooves calling to you? This is our origin, our home.

She knew it wasn't nice to be so short with others. Of what she'd exchanged with her new bond-mates, she understood that many of them had bonded multiple times. Everyone's bond story there was different; some remembered much, some little. This one must not remember much at all. Glancing around her, Reverie realized that her hooves were nigh on numb from the chill of the water and the stillness she'd fallen into out of habit. With an internal sigh, she turned and began wading back to shore.

Her warning had been met with resistance, as she should have expected. Some took to these lands far easier than others. Lace didn't understand it, but the words spoken in response did cause her to pause and wonder. Could she feel the pull of the mountains? Lace closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, but felt nothing other than the fresh, cool air in her nostrils. The breeze rolling through the grasses over the hills was calming, but the hills were still new to her. If she did feel some sort of bond with this place, it would take some time.

The shift in the other Serian's direction brought Lace back to attention. Wait, she called, please do not go. My intentions were not to offend, just to caution. You appear to be fairing quite well, is this so? She shifted her legs, as one of her rear legs begged to be relieved of the pressure of the other. She had grown uncomfortable, so Lace decided it was time to get back up anyway. In a swift, elegant motion she stood to her hooves, and gave her mane and tail a shake. Her wings buzzed for just a few seconds as she readjusted them to rest along her back.

It was only a few steps southward before she was within sight of the other Serian. Lace lowered her head politely, and then turned to take a sip of the cool, spring water. As she awaited an answer, she wondered how everyone else was fairing as well. Perhaps this world wasn't so foreign to them after all. Had she been the only one to resist the change? Maybe she was being too stubborn. She was often accused of being too stubborn. She gave another shake of her mane and shook the preposterous idea from her mind.
