already holding his breath, Sparkle nontheless felt his chest tighten in an attempt to do just that. he wanted to be still but he knew that the important thing was to blend in, so he swayed with the river life. how he knew he couldn't say, but it seemed that at some point between his parents and becomming abandoned he'd had some experience with this. he let his heart slow and half closed his eyes as he settled into a stupor, feeling as if he were what he pretended to be. he needed less air this way and if she got too close he could edge away and keep swaying, hopefully without detection.

She looked very carefully at the seaweed. Her eyes never left the surface of the water and her ears swivild around listening for anything. She walked ever so carefully trying not to make hardly any ripples. She walked with her noise just an ich above the water. There! She thought she saw movement. She turned and went over to where she saw the ripple.

Sparkle was really getting into it now. His heart slowed more and he stopped thinking, stopped trying to feel for ripples in the water. He was just enjoying the sun and current, and if it wasn't for instinct he wouldn't have moved when he felt something getting a little too close. As it was, he shot out of the water with a cry and onto the shore, spinning on his hind legs to splash his front in the water in an attempt to startle whoever it was. When he saw Amber he gave a deceptively boyish grin, and charged towards a nearby bank, thinking of diving under and buying time to sort out his thoughts.

Amber head shot up as she ran covered in water from sparkle shooting out of the water and onto he bank. She shook her head so her blue mane out of her face. With that she cantered out of the water and onto the beach after Sparkle. She then kicked into high greer gallop, her mane and tail flowing behind her. She had a determined look in her eye.

He splashed back into the water, going as deep as he dared and then hovered for a moment. When Amber had surprised him he'd automatically tried to bail, but just as soon as he was clear he was ready to fight in case he couldn't out run whoever it was. He still had adrenaline pumping through him, and his thoughts swirled like the waters around him. Sparkle was always someone who was peaceful, always the one who didn't mind a little compromise. He never thought he'd be able to react that way with anything.

Needing air and a clear head, he swam towards the very center where the light wasn't as good before surfacing. He needed this moment to himself. Amber could catch him later.

Diving down into the depths again, he looked around for the mare, and felt glad that it hadn't been Mist who'd surprised him. The last thing he wanted was to scare her off and Amber looked like someone who could handle a fright so there wasn't anything to worry about there. He just had to make sure she didn't catch him.

Amber dove into the water very determined to catch him. By now she pretty much new his strategy. She swam as fast she could and followed a bubble trail that Sparkle had left as he swam. Boy was he swimming deep; no matter I will catch him she thought as she swam down into the deeper part of the stream.
