They were, indeed, nearing the end of the trees. Sparkle laughed as she pulled even with him, then gave an allmighty buck and very nearly kicked himself out of the forest, hardly a head in front of her. The buck had been from nothing more than sheer joy but it had been the little spurt he'd needed. As the sun washed over him again he danced around, laughing gayly and nearly jumping up towards the light that gave him such energy.

Then he realized where they were and he grinned at Peppermint, the same slightly crooked one he'd given her before and said, "So little pretty, what do you think of the ocean? These breaks are gloriously chilly being so far north and they're guaranteed to wake you up. Also, there's things that live under them that are quite unique."

He grinned, prancing a little again as the sun warmed his hide, and then trotted over to the shallows to let the waves wash over his hooves.

"Ah, you won!" said Peppermint. "Congradulations, good job!" She trotted forward to stand by Sparkle, and looked out over the ocean. Spray from the water's edge lifted into the air, making it quite cool. "Oh, I like this!" she said. "I love a nice cool breeze. Unique sea creatures live here? Is it okay to visit them?"

Peppermint wanted to grin at Sparkle again, but in truth the sides of her cheeks were beggining to hurt from all the grinning she'd already done today, so instead she looked out over the waters and tried to give her mouth a rest.

She was too good to be true. She had to be. The only other creature he'd met to far that would say 'you won, good job' was.....well himself. Laughing, he tickled her, then dashed away in the waves calling, "Of course it is, that's why I brought you here!"

Prancing, he trotted back to her, wanting to try and tickle her agian simply because he loved her laugh. But he also wanted to explore the deeps with her so what she did pretty much decided what he did at the moment. He was feeling extrememly playful today, almost mischieviously so.

She thought she'd hid it well, but Peppermint had nearlly jumped out of her skin when Sparkle tickled her. Yikes, I totally wasn't expecting that! she thought. Out loud she laughed (she couldn't help it, she was very ticklish). When he trotted away, she shook herself vigorously, almost involuntarily. She really needed to learn how not to be ticklish.

When she saw Sparkle returning, she was sure he was going to try to tickle her again--she could see a mischievous glint in his eye that convinced her of it. Her own eyes widened a bit. "Oh!" she exclaimed, and she immediately trotted forward into the water, trying to get out of tickle range (while still staying close).

Sparkle laughed at her Oh! and chased her into the water, keeping an eye on where she was going while he tried to catch her. She was pretty fast though, he still remembered how he'd won only by luck, and before long they were in the deeper parts of the shallows. He wondered if she'd notice the mermaids.

Peppermint ran through the waves, going fast enough that water rose in ridges to either side of her. Suddenly she felt something grab her by the pastern of her back right leg. It dragged her to a halt. She stood stock still in the water, her head high in surprise and perhaps a bit of fear. She didn't quite dare look. "Something's got ahold of my leg!" she whispered loudly to Sparkle.
