The Untamed Wildness

Post by Luminaire »

((This is for SB and I. ^^ Though later I shall make a thread for others if they're interested. ~.^))

On the far side of the fields near the mouth of the Fyn River, a thunderous noise can be heard as the vibrations of hooves pummeling the ground reaches the water's edge, and travels through until it is too faint to detect.

He had been galloping for a long distance across the fields to come this far. For no reason except to feel the joy of freedom, the long grass whipping his ankles, the air in his lungs fueled by the wind of the sky. The rise, and fall of the long blonde strands in his mane and tail. The solid pounding his yellow hooves made against the earth, all these things fed a fire in his soul. A fire that sometimes felt so large and strong it could burst out of his body in a firestorm to consume all in its path.

Sometimes, even though he exaulted in this fire within, he longed for something to cool it's burning for a little while...just some peace for a time. Ah, but surely no such thing existed? He had found none, not even in those of his beloved family. Though the cool shadows of his sister and father could hold the storm at bay, it could not dampen the flames. And his mother only waited for it to pass, like all storms do.

He crests a slight hill just before the bank of the river, Ah river water, it shines so cool in the light, but I much prefer the pouring rain! Sudden Storm neighs, loud as a siren, in either a declaration...or a warning of his arrival. Perhaps he did not wish to surprise anyone who did not seek company. Especially company of a rather unpredictable nature at times.

The water did seem to beckon to him and so with half-rears he runs down the hill to greet the river waters.

Trust was exploring a new section of the Fyn River, drifting along gently with the current, allowing it to bring her closer to its mouth. The water was clear and deep, and she spent most of her time near the bottom amongst the plants that grew between the stones. She knew that if the river had any secret surprises she would find them down there.

Little fishes, with scales that glittered as they moved. Small crabs that crawled out from under a stone, waved their claws around at the disturbance the much larger Serian created, then scuttled back into their hiding places as she swam too close for comfort.

She smiled at their silly antics. Trust was a gentle Serian, of calm disposition and completely unflappable. It seemed she was incapable of worry, as if she had some way of knowing that everything was going to be OK. And she had a way of radiating this calmness, such that those around could not but help feel as if maybe, just maybe, she might be right.

And then she heard the sound. It was an odd sound, like thunder...only not. Sound travelled so much better under the water, but it was distorted and she couldn't quite place it. It was a sound full of power and fury and for a moment, it stopped.

Trust rose through the water, curious as to what could cause such a noise. But she was cautious too, perhaps some unknown danger lurked above the surface, and a foolish mare she was not.

The noise had started again. At first she thought it grew louder because she was no longer so deep beneath the river, but she soon realized it was more than that. The sound moved, and was coming closer. Even the sands of the river bank appeared to shudder with this thunder...and now she recognized it for what it was. The thunder of hooves.

Trust paused just beneath the surface. Only someone knowing what to look for, the slight ripple of water, the slight glitter beneath, would have noticed her presence.

He skids to a stop just at the edge of the sandy bank, just a millimeter from the water's reach. Trust could probably hear the stomping of his hooves and loud snorts that accompanied the halt.

Though he was in pretty good shape, this was without a doubt the longest and farthest he'd ever ran at full gallop. Stormy's sides heaved from the exertion, he looked behind him and tried to estimate the distance. Too far, I can't even imagine the point I started at! 40 miles maybe? Not bad...Darkie would have trouble with that! he grins to himself, still puffing for oyxgen.

"Hmm..." his voice is low and rumbly depending on the mood it could be threatening like rolling thunder, or roughly like a large purring cat. Since, he was feeling rather pleased with himself it was very much more like purring.

But the first thing anyone was likely to notice about this stallion are the bright yellow eyes, molten sunlight, with slited pupils. Feral looking eyes that shine in the lowest lights. Then the eye of the beholder would be drawn to the silvery-white markings sweeping from below the eyes and back toward the body. They are rather like winds, or flames in shape.

The stallion's purple body is splashed with gray and white markings, that remind one of storm clouds on the horizon. And of course no one could miss his crowning glory of golden wheat colored, mane.

Sudden Storm lowers his muzzle to the water sniffing, and watching all around. He did not wished to be jumped while taking a drink. His ears rotate carefully to catch any sounds of being approuched.

Then just as he is about to dip his muzzle into the water he pauses and tries to see below the reflecting surface for hidden surprises. After all...Fate couldn't be the only fish-tail around that liked to scare the spots off of everyone.

The waters here were almost as incipherable as the lake back home, however. Though he might of saw..something..he couldn't be sure. A soft snort ripples the water, "Well, if you're there, don't mind if I have a drink..." he says lightly before finally taking a long cool drink.

Trust remained calmly beneath the waters surface as a few pebbles and some sand was pushed into the water by the shuffling hooves. The wavy form of an equine head appeared through river's distorting lens. She watched as the head turned back to look the way it had come, then it lowered towards the surface, breath making ripples, nearly obliterating the image.

The aquatic one shifted slightly to maintain her position against the current. The small movement caused the sunlight to shimmer momentarily along her body and through her transluscent fins. It was enough for the land-figure to notice her, or at least suspect her presence.

The fish-tailed mare recognized the voice as that of a stallion's. Of course she had no objections to his drinking the waters here, and she watched as he dipped his muzzle into the water, causing it to appear detached from the rest of his body as the light diffracted. A strange optical illusion that Trust was familiar with. She waited patiently for the stallion to finish, unwilling to disturb him as his thirst appeared great.

She wondered what had caused such a thirst. Had he been lost, finding his way from the deserts? She didn't know much of the lay of the land beyond the river, perhaps there were no other sources of water between here and whence he came. Had he run a great distance, or some other grand exertion? If so, why? Had something been chasing him, or was he trying to get somewhere? Or was it just a particularly hot day? The river was always cool.

Would he confide in her if she asked?

Still she did not interrupt his drink, but rose higher such that her dark form beneath the water took on shape and colour, became more than a possible movement of shadow against the darkness of the depths. The purple of her coat reflected gradient hues, while the brighter stripe along her body was brilliantly visible. In the process, she was able to make out more of his colours, no longer was he a simple black blot against the sun.

And so she waited, knowing he could see her now, though distorted by the watery window as his image was to her.

When he finished his drink, he saw the rising shadow and then the shimmering of colors as the suspected fish-tailed serian reveals their presence. Stormy's first thought of Fate, fades from his mind as the colors were different. He did not know this one.

Through the window of water, he could see her brilliant colors and glossamer fins. A spark of interest flares, Who is this? he wonders. Stormy turns his head to better see with his right eye.

And so they stayed looking at each other through the water for a few moments. Purple ears flick forward and back thoughtfully, though revealing nothing of those thoughts.

"You coming up, or shall I come down? Though, I really hope you come up here because it is rather hard to converse underwater." Stormy grins slightly and taps the surface with one hoof in invitation. It was strange though..he rarely wanted to meet others, preferring to remain aloof. Let his more social sister socialize, had been his addictude.

Ah well, he didn't really expect this meeting to last very long. Sudden Storm was far too restless to stay in one place talking to someone he'd probably never see again. But who knows?

Trust looked back into the stallion's golden eye, the water causing his entire face to take on amusing forms as the wind rippled and warped the surface. At first she thought that he was just going to look a moment longer and then leave. She was thinking that it would have to be her to break the silence.

But he was the first to break the surface, tapping the water with a hoof. Trust knew that being under the water would be as awkward for him as being on land would be awkward for her, so she raised her head into the air and nodded to him.

"Greetings. My name is Trust," she said. Her voice was soft, feminine, almost musical.

She wondered about this stallion, seeing him clearly now for the first time. He seemed such a restless spirit. The way the wind blew through his mane, his eyes, his shifting hooves. There was some uncontrollable energy beneath his skin that she could sense but couldn't put a name to. A barely contained fury that was not driven by anger. Perhaps it was simply his nature, but she wondered if it might be something more...perhaps something even he was not aware of.

That being the case, she wondered how long he would stay. Didn't seem the sort to want to spend long hours lazing about a riverbank chatting up a strange mare.
