Lost (everyone feel free to join in)

OOC: Ok, well I dont know that this idea will work but on this story I'm leaving it open for anyone who wants to to join in as a friend of the main characters. I also left the names of the friends open so everything is up to you.

BIC: Aspen had it. She walked out the back door and slammed it shut. No one was going to tell her what to do, what to think, or who to be friends with. There was nothing wrong with her friends or what she did but her sister thought that there was. But then again her sister didn’t like anyone that she hung out with because they were taking Aspen’s attention away from being Kelsey’s (her older sister) slave. All her life she had done exactly what Kelsey told her, had thought what she told her to think and had bent over backwards to please her. But now she was done. It was time for her to move on and be her own person. She walked to the field where her horse was, munching on a few bits of grass here and there. As he heard her he trotted over to the fence and nudged the tears on her face away. “Starlight, what are we going to do?” She whispered and he looked out towards the forest. “We cant just leave, what if we get hurt? I couldn’t loose you.” Starlight was her 4 year old buttermilk buckskin paint and her prize possession. She sat on the top rail of the fence thinking about what would happen to them if they ran away. The sheriff in town could get a posse together and come looking for her but the only time he ever bothered to get a posse was when the bank had been robbed, or there was a reward posted and surely Kelsey wouldn’t put up a reward for her. After a few more minutes of thought she saddled and mounted Starlight. “Ok boy, here we go.” She stroked his neck as she urged him forward into the woods and thought to herself ‘with any luck, no one will even notice I’m gone for a while.’ And off they went.

Shealeth was taking a leasurly ride along an old forest trail, one she was familiar with and knew would eventually lead to water. Her mare, a sweet tempered blue roan Arabian named Dusk, was picking her own pace for the time, and the energetic three year old, only just freshly broke, was in the mood for a light trot. It was because of this that she almost didn't hear the familair sound of Starlight's hooves, and even when she did it was only because of the sudden flight of some birds and the hurry of quails which made her focus her attentions. But what could Aspen be doing out here? She herself came here after her chores were done and the stalls cleaned, right before supper. She didn't know Aspen as one to travel this part though. A spark of concern followed the sound of hooves, and thinking that the young stud had broken the fence again as he had done in his younger days she turned Dusk in the right direction and gently urged her faster. The bright mare was all to willing to comply, as Starlight was a close friend of hers as well. Horse and rider shared everything; Dusk could even poke her head through Shealeth's window at night.

Aspen's tears had finally dried and she was leaning over her stallions neck, letting him lead the way. Her mind still darted over ther events of the evening and her mind wouldn't rest on the same subject for more then a few minutes. She was about asleep when Starlight threw his head up and whinnied. She sat up suddenly, afraid that someone had already discovered her missing and had now found her. The combination of the stress and sitting up to fast was a bad mix and a few tears slipped out of the corners of her eye just before she hit the ground and her world went black.

Dusk gave a happy nicker as Starlight came into view, and without very much though Shealeth pulled out a lasso she kept in her saddle bag. There was never any telling what she might find out here, so she was always prepared. It wasn't until she had Aspen's horse secured to a tree though that she noticed the girl herself. She demounted with a heavy sigh, thinking that this wasn't at all out of character, and dropped Dusk's reins in front of her. She'd broken the horse herself, and knew that if the mare's reins hung straight from her mouth she was as good as tied. It'd taken months for that particular lesson, but now she knew it'd been worth the effort. With a mild grunt she lifted her friend fireman style and slung her back over her horse before tieing him to Dusk and leading all of them to that stream she knew of. When they got there she pulled Aspen off, lay her carefully on the ground, and then dunked her head under the water.

Aspen woke up with a start. When she got her bearings she realized her head and shoulders were completely soaked and Shealeth was next to her. As memories came back she clung to her friend and sobbed out the story.

Shealeth was silent through the retelling, having learned from five brothers and sisters how to be silent and listen. She was the oldest, of course, so she'd done this a good few times. When her friend quieted Shealeth sat her back and then said the one thing she knew Aspen would hear at the moment. "You put Starlight in danger. No matter what you felt, or how bad it was, you put that horse in danger, Aspen."

It was the one thing Shealeth felt would get her friend thinking. To run off on her own was one thing, but to bring with her a horse that she had no means of caring for was another. If Shealeth hadn't found them Starlight could have very well run off as well, still fully tacked. This was not only uncomfortable, but after so long it would make him ill from infectious sores. It would also make him easier prey for the wolves and cougers that roamed the area. The small moment of selfishness had nearly had extreme consequences.
