This is like something that was done with my good friend Keira before (who is sorely missed in this place) where me and another write a story together, post by post. :3 This time, tis ShiningRoan, whose butt is now getting kicked into shape else he wake up missing the left side of some rather vital body parts. >,>

So! Begin the story!!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a small smile in her eyes as she sniffed around the base of a tree, more or less content for the moment. She was an odd creature, though she didn't realize it - her deep, rust red coat, rabbit's ears and tri-split hooves were indeed a typical sight where she was. At the moment it was the tender bark of the roots showing just above the dirt that was washed away in the last flood which had caught her attention.
Not that she got more than a mouthful - a small creature covered in fur, with gills and a shark's teeth flashed under her nose with an indignant sound, promptly chewing her out - and threatening to literally chew her out - for daring to eat their home. No matter; there were other trees to eat. XD
And yet, as she went to turn towards a new snack, something strange caught her eye - a flash and a glimmering ripple just hidden within the woodland's shadows.
He hated when he sneezed. Black panther or no, when he sneezed, he flashed purple like a beacon, and that always let his prey know where he was, and they always escaped. Grumbling to himself, he padded forward and scent marked a tree before walking towards a clearing and spotting rust colored fur.
Stalking forward noiselessly, he came up behind her and pounced in a flash. Gently pinning her down, he grinned and chuckled. "Hello, old friend. How are you?" he asked, getting up and laying on the ground with a purr. He might get bopped for his prank, but sometimes he could not help himself.
A squeaking bleat was let loose as the panther jumped on her, quickly followed by a firm nip and a laugh.
"Hungry, and apparently needing to touch up my skills if you can pounce me again, Old Cat."
She smirked as he flicked his tail and stuck his tongue out, knowing full well how the nickname irritated him. That was, essentially, the only names they had, those they gave each other in fun or affection.
"You're the one who was pounced, so who's old now?" he countered, and laughed as she fumbled for a moment.
"Oh, come on!" she chuckled, stomping a hoof in defeat - maybe she was getting old. "There's some good hunting to the south, and better berries."
He didn't need to be asked twice, though as they turned away from the (once again) indignantly chattering furr-thing in the tree he found himself asking "What do you consider 'good hunting'? For that matter, you aren't even a hunter!"
"I'm better than that," the rust colored creature said, flicking her large, over-fluffed tail under his nose.
"And what could possibly be better than that to give you such knowledge of what 'good hunting' is," he asked good naturedly, enjoying the teasing while they made their way south.
"If you can't figure that out then perhaps it's your mind that's aged away, leaving a strong body behind."
"Oh-ho!" he cried, laughing and attempting to pounce her tail, "picking on my poor brain now, hm? That's not fair, you know I don't have many to begin with!"
Ah, that made her laugh. How could you beat someone in a word game when they turned things around like that?
"Hey!" the rust-fur laughed, jumping forward in a strange, deer-like motion, "That's attatched, you!"
"Yes, it's attached, but it's also very fluffy and fun to bat at. Quit being so fun, and maybe I'll quit being so playful." he teased.
It was fun to have his old friend with him again. They had befriended each other as cubs, and though they were starting to get on in years, they still played as though they were only a few months old, and still growing.
Though she could defend herself fairly well, he still felt the need to protect her (sometimes to her mild annoyance, though she knew he only had good intentions, so she did not begrudge him). He had even once acted as though he was going to eat a male she had rejected who could not take no for an answer in order to scare him off.
That had earned him a nip and a talking to, but he still felt the male deserved it. The male had come close to harming her, and that he did not appreciate. Looking at his old friend again, he purred happily and rubbed his cheek against hers affectionately as he had done so many times before.
She grinned and nipped at his ears good naturedly, a familiar gesture that had grown into a near habit over the eons. He was one of her dearest friends, which had grown few and far between as they aged. He had a problem of putting himself in the middle of trouble she would just as soon he avoided, but part of knowing him was knowing that he would sooner look out for others than himself.
He said the same of her, though.
She rested her tail over his back as they walked, some small contact to keep in touch and make sure neither of them lost the other.
It was just as well - just a few lengths until they reached the southern border of trees another flicker of black flashed at the corner of her eye - a disappearing panther that could easily disguise itself as invisible while hunting.
She may be getting older, but she was still as fast as when she was young - a moment that was proved as she jumped sideways and knocked him down with her ample rump.
"What!?" he cried, jumping up and shaking his head as he saw her stumble away from the reaching claws.
She lost sight of him as she tried to avoid the scrambling claws, grateful for her extra fluff as chunks of her fur flew.
Blasted panthers!
Shaking himself off, he started running after the panther that was chasing his friend, snarling ferociously. Chasing after the other panther, he started glowing purple with anger. He did not like others harming his loved ones, and he would not stand for it as long as there was a breath in his body.
As he ran, he started gaining on the other panther, and decided to try a tactic that some of his cheetah friends had taught him. It was simple, but it was so simple, many other big cats didn't even think of it. He was going to trip him as he got right behind him.
He was getting close now, and all he had to do was close that gap, but the other panther wasn't making it easy. He had spotted him, and was running a serpentine pattern, and going over rough terrain, to try and lose him.
This didn't bother him, though. The more the other panther focused on him, the less he was able to focus on his friend. Still, though it was difficult, he now found himself just behind his target, and decided to take a swipe.
He missed! He needed to try again. He swiped once more and connected! As the other panther tumbled, he had to side-step the other panther so he wouldn't get tangled up with him and possibly break something.
He growled at the other panther to let him know to back off, and went off in search of his old friend.
