A New Adventure [Open]

Zyria could not wait to return to the beautiful hills of Sionayra, it had been far too long. More importantly, she was dying to see her old friend and hoped she was still there. It had been over a year, Zyria guessed, since she left the hills. That chapter in her life was over now though, and Sionayra felt like home more than anywhere else had.

She darted through the trees, back and forth, with the wind blowing her long black hair from her face. "She has to still be there, please still be there..." she thought again and again. Light on her feet, it did not take long before the trees thinned and long green hills stretched for eternity before her. She came to a stop at the tree line to admire them for a moment. The sky was darkening, and despite her speed the dark clouds were gaining on her. The wind blew a little harder and she could sense moisture in the air. Feeling she better keep up the pace, she took off again.

If she could just find that spot where they first met... it was along the river where she found shelter under a tree. It was the day she left home. All she had to do was get near the elven forest and retrace her steps... the steps she took years ago.

After hours of walking, the clouds above finally broke. Darkness covered the hills and a steady rain began to fall. Zyria was prepared, as usual, and pulled a hood over her head. She had found a river of some sort, whether or not it was the same river she could not be certain. She followed it anyway, hoping to see something familiar that might help her get her bearings. She stared at her feet as she walked, deep in thought. She hoped her friend wasn't too angry with her for leaving...

The wind was somewhat fierce now, Zyria had to pull her hood back up several times and it was pointless now, her hair was already soaked. She even began to get a chill. "Ahh, finally. Here's a tree I can rest under." she thought and approached a pretty thick tree with branches hanging out over the river. She stopped. "A tree??" she said aloud, "Is this---?" It couldn't be. This tree looked so big! Then again... it had been a good while since they first met at this tree... and it did look familiar.

Zyria's eyes quickly scanned the branches. She was so excited, if her friend was relaxing on one of the branches she might pee herself! She darted around in circles, checking every single branch... but no luck. She let out a deep sigh, and plopped herself down in the exposed roots at the base of the tree. It was mostly out of the rain, and she was pretty tired. She reached into her bag, pulled out some fruit, and began to nibble on it while she watched the storm. Where else could she look? Maybe this trip wasn't a good idea after all. Maybe her friend had moved on? Either way, she knew she'd run into somebody familiar, it was just bad timing.

She finished the fruit, tilted her head back and closed her eyes...

Re: A New Adventure [Open]

She swooped and dipped, dancing on currents of air, rejoicing in the sights and sounds of the beautiful land of Sionayra. It was always balm to the soul, and she drank it in. After quite a while and quite the distance covered, the sky darkened and rainscent loomed on the air. As drops began to fly through the air, she gave in and dipped down to a heavily leaved tree for some cover.

Alighting gently on a low branch, she decided a squirrel might be more suited to the tree and shifted accordingly. Scrabbling around the branches for the best spot, a figure caught her attention. It moved with a familiar grace. She watched curiously as it circled the tree and settled in.

It pulled something out of a bag. And it.. it munched! Her tiny squirrel stomach grumbled. She held back, looking the figure over with surprise. It had been long, far too long since she'd seen this face. She squeaked and scrabbled forward, leaping to a lower branch and then to the roots around the figure. A final leap landed her squarely on Zyria's torso and she proceeded to scurry around to her back and up to her shoulder, ecstatic.

Perhaps she should have shifted back to the form Zyria would recognize, she realized a bit too late.

Re: A New Adventure [Open]

As she took in a deep breath, her nostrils filling with the cool darn air, a rustling sound from above caught her attention. She opened her eyes to see a small creature scurrying down from the tree branches above. Zyria recognized the shape and size as that of a squirrel, one of the cutest small rodent species of the land. This particular squirrel was quite spunky as well, as it came down directly to her and sprung onto her lap. Within seconds it was climbing all over her, up her back and onto her shoulder. Zyria let out a soft giggle in response to the tiny feet tickling her skin as it climbed.

"Oh! Look at you!" she squealed, excited. What a brave creature, or a careless one, she couldn't decide. Questions rose in her mind about how and why this squirrel felt so safe and comfortable around her. Sure, she was an elf and more in-touch with nature than humans, but she was also a hunter. As she lifted the peach to her lips for another bite, a thought occurred to her. Maybe it was hungry! If it hadn't found food in quite some time, it might be desperate enough to boldly approach her in an attempt to beg for food.

"Are you hungry, little thing?" Zyria asked, keeping her voice soft and gentle but having to speak louder than the pounding rain. She pulled a piece of the juicy peach apart with her fingers, and held it up to her shoulder where the squirrel sat. Typically squirrels ate nuts and berries, she was pretty sure, but peaches were nice and sweet and might be considered a treat. "I don't mind sharing." she added with a soft smile.

|| Please excuse my total slackerishness in taking so long to reply. I am the worst. >_<

|| Her friend was so kind, to so readily offer a piece of her snack with no notion of who she was. Grabbing the piece of peach, which was a bit overlarge for a squirrel of her size, she popped it in her mouth until her cheek bulged and scampered off of Zyria's shoulder. She doubted even in her kindness that the elf would thank her for shifting to a full human sized body while sitting on her.

It took just a second to calm herself enough to reach the place where she could sort through to her core and shift back. Once that was done she leaned back against the tree and chewed the peach she still had, leaning to her left where Zyria sat, a goofy grin plastered to her face.

Re: A New Adventure [Open]

Zyria couldn't help but giggle at the sight of the tiny rodent stuffing the rather large piece of peach fruit into its mouth. It took some convincing, but the squirrel was able to fit it all inside those expandable cheek pouches. Now with a mouthful, the squirrel scurried off her shoulder, down to the ground, and around the other side of the tree. Zyria was not surprised by this, as squirrels were not typically very social creatures and preferred the privacy of the trees. She couldn't help but turn in her seat to watch, however. The little thing had peaked her curiosity now that it had fit all of that peach into its cheeks!

It took only the blink of an eye. Now standing against the tree where the squirrel once sat was a tall figure, pale-skinned with long reddish-brown hair that waved back and forth well past her shoulders. A mischievous grin was spread across her face, and in an instant Zyria was bursting at the seams with excitement. "Oh!" was all she could manage to get out, before she frantically scrambled to her feet. The partially-eaten peach tumbled to the ground behind her as she leaped forward, throwing her arms around her old friend.

All of the memories of time passed came flooding back to her. It was hard not to hold on for hours and hours. Zyria knew better though, and kept the hug a quick second or two before pulled back, a wide grin and twinkle in her eyes. "I thought I would never find you! What are the chances? Oh, goodness. My apologies!" she blurted out, almost all at once. The poor dear still had a mouthful of peach, and here Zyria was about to squeeze it out of her! She took a few steps backwards, retreating. Her joyous grin remained.

"I am so glad you are okay. Are you okay? Doing well?" Zyria asked, rambling. It had been quite a long time, years even, since she had seen her friend. It felt like ages. Zyria was practically a new person now! She still sported the long, midnight-black hair, but most of it was twisted into braids that were again braided together to strategically stay out of her face. Her deep violet eyes now contrasted starkly against the black eyeliner and eye shadow. The dark makeup and dark purple lipstick also stood out against her pale skin. The long, rough journey she had been on showed in her new attire. Rather than the long robes and cloak from her homeland, she now wore tight leather armor, a thick cloak made of hide, and steel armor protecting her shoulders and wrists. Despite this change in appearance from when she was here last, she was confident her best friend would have no problems recognizing her.

Re: A New Adventure [Open]

She couldn’t help but giggle a bit at Zyria’s surprise and delight. It took the full force of her hug to reach the full realization that she and her old friend were reunited. It was something she’d pondered on many a time and seemed nigh impossible. Fortune had smiled on them and seen fit to cross their paths once more. Vin silently vowed to herself that she wouldn’t let that happen again.

There was a time when hugs were to be kept short, or even not tolerated at all, depending on who the hugger was.... Those days were receding into the past, so she gave Zyria a tiny squeeze as she felt her begin to let go.

First things first, however. She quickly finished the mouthful of peach she’d been working on. “Thank you for sharing your snack!” The excitement fairly took her breath away, even with the peach gone. “I am well, my friend. I hope you can say the same for yourself...?” she gave herself a moment to clearly look the other figure over. She’d clearly matured into a fuller bloom of herself than she’d been before when she still had a slip of a figure and the shiny look of childhood still hanging on to her expressions by a thread. There was still playfulness, but somehow she seemed older. She wore the guise of a warrior more comfortably, it seemed. “Seen more of the worlds, have you? You look well, certainly.”

Twiddling a loose stand of her own cloak, she ruminated on her own appearance. There wasn’t much that had changed about her in ages. Brown hair hadn’t seen enough of the sun lately to have the usual red streaks. Had her face aged as well, she wondered? Most people liked to change their appearance, for some odd reason. It was beyond her. She still grew flowers and vines in her hair, though she’d removed most of them a few days before. It tended to unsettle others, make them ask questions she didn’t have answers to. The vines that grew around her wrists like bracelets were calm and quiet, with tiny white and yellow blooms just beginning to bud. Resisting the urge to trace a green tendril, she wondered again why her own tattoo had decided it was appropriate to move and take on the appearance of plant life. If touched, all that would be felt would be the smoothness of skin. Those were not recently new, but she couldn’t remember if she’d ever shown them to Zyr. Normally she didn’t show them at all, but kept them slumbering beneath her long sleeves. Another oddity.

Turning her thougts from herself, Vin wondered what she’d interrupted, what plans her friend had for the rest of her day. “Were you going back out into the rain? I will walk with you, if you have more traveling to do. Or did I interrupt your resting? Did you want to sit again?” She tilted her head toward the tree roots Zyria had made herself comfortable in before, awaiting her answer. She would shadow Zyria until some business took her away where she couldn’t follow.
