He nodded slightly, the light in his eyes dimming as she spoke of her own past pains. It was hard to imagine that this wonderful mare could ever be a loner, could ever be anything other than the sweet, gentle being she was now.
But for many it would be hard to imagine him as broken, as even haunted by what had come to pass for him. Tossing his main, he pulled his head up as her movements sent little splashes his way, the corners of his mouth lifting ever so slightly. She was sweet to go easy on him like that; he'd expected a real tidal wave once she told him of how she'd been hurt.
Sighing, he nuzzled her cheek and hung his head wearily. These pains were so old he wasn't sure they'd ever leave. For the first time though he felt them easing, felt his heart beginning to relax the tiniest bit.
"It's looking out at those shadows and not knowing that makes me remember. I was in a pen, a stall, and had to look out as so many faces passing me by, passing over me. I didn't know what was going to happen, was beginning to forget what had already happened. I felt... Broken. As if my bonded had been a part of me and then simply torn that part away when she abandoned me. And I had to look out at all those faces and wonder what was going to happen to me."
Sparkle shook his head here, trying to hide a small tear that had managed to escape him. Looking in the shadows, in that darkness and not knowing what could be there, it was so much like looking out of that stall. To look outside and wonder.
"What I worry about," He whispered, "is that if it happened before - Amber, what if it happens again? What if I'm rejected again, passed over by every eye and left to huddle in the back? I'm so afraid of remembering, because it tells me that it Can happen, that I can lose everything. That I could lose you."
With that said, a sound that was more scream than whinny tore free of his throat and he flopped sideways, sending ripples that rocked most of the lake. This game was normally so lighthearted, yet here he was with his dark secrets. Forget small things like "I never eat my alfalfa" that make your playmate laugh as they're soaked.
Yet perhaps it wasn't too late to do just that. Once he'd cleansed himself of this darkness, perhaps he could finally enjoy every second the way it should be. He would finally be himself, and only himself, every moment he lived.
Your turn, darling; don't think that I'm not listening, either. I have my pains, but you are my Light. You matter so much more than these shadows in my heart. So go ahead and knock me under these waters.
Light in the Darkness [Amber]
She nuzzled him back, her whole body seeming to glow. She was so happy, there were no words to describe the way she felt. For the first time, besides her parents and bonded she was loved by someone and she loved him back. Amber felt so warm and safe being here with her mate.
She moved closer and rested her head on his back. "Yes the dark is a place of mystery; you never know when the eyes may play tricks on you or what is actually there. I... I used the night as my cover; no one ever wants to be around the loner... So... I would follow from the shadows that way I was near others but the never noticed me." she said her voice calm, since she had finally after a long time gotten over the past. She nickered softly to him, "I will never leave you and you will never loose me. I will never just pass you by, and I don't believe others will again." she said in a reassuring voice.
She nickered again in comforting tone, when a scream erupted from his throat. "It's ok, I am hear for you and always will be." she said her voice soft and sweet. She lighted her head and took a step back, her orbs shown bright with love for Sparkle. She then leaned forward and kissed him on the muzzle. 'I hope this helps you break from you fears,' she thought.

I am here for you and always will be.
How could he doubt that? She was his love, his mate, his only. If he lost all else, if past became present, then he would at least have her. Just as he would always shadow Amber, always make sure that his beloved was safe and smiling.
"And besides," he snorted to himself, "what good is it to fear what's already happened when there's this glorious creature in your here and now?"
His heart seemed to loosen with this fact, this reassurance that she at least would always be there. That he would never have to look out and Not Know again, because he would Always know of his darling. He didn't have to be afraid of being alone, abandoned, torn asunder, because he would never be alone. Amber would make sure of that much.
Returning her kiss so that it was hard to tell where one Serian began and the other ended, Sparkle swung his neck over hers, squeezing her closer with his equine hug. Softly, barely a whisper, everything that was occurring within him was placed in three small words. "You're my everything."
When he pulled away again his eyes were once more aglow, his smile once more tugging the corners of his mouth in a sweetly crooked manner. His heart fully depended on Amber now; she was what held him up. Hopefully she knew to come lean on him whenever she needed as well. If not, well, he would just have to prop her up anyway and Show her that he'd be there.
"You know what would be fun?" He nickered, absently playing with her forelock and peppering her face in kisses and nuzzles. "Hide and seek in the water in moonlight. Or, oh, even better, hide and seek in the Forest in moonlight!"
Nuzzling her once more, he swam a little closer and murmured, "Thank you, by the way. Thank you for being the light to chase away my shadows."
He offered a second kiss, trying to put everything he didn't have the words for into it.
After all, hide and seek in the forest Would be loads of fun, but anything she wanted would be just as enjoyable. It really didn't matter to him, just as long as he got to play with his best friend and mate. Amber.

Amber eyes shown ever more, she was relived and could not even say in words how warm, safe and loved she felt. She was thrilled to see him smile and that his orbs were shinning to. She tossed her crown playfully, smiling back at him. He meant the world to her, and she knew from how he acted that Sparkle felt the same.
She looked at him through the kisses and nipping, "Either one sounds fun. You decide." she said in her sweet voice. She watched him come closer, and nickered, "Your welcome my love. That is what a mate does."
She closed her eyes; she knew what his kiss meant completely. She returned it, hoping what she couldn't say was put into hers. This had to be the best night of her whole live. She was loved, safe and so much more that no words, or anything could describe.

Sparkle felt like one of her lightning marks shot through him with the kiss he received. When she finally pulled away he had a comically goofy grin slapped on his face and stars dancing in front of his eyes.
The light that danced over the water was reflected in his eyes as he tossed his main, his smile softening into the usual adorable crookedness. Oh, but he could simply float away, or so it seemed.
"I vote we play hide and seek in the woods.. And I be the one to seek, if it's alright with you."
His eyes danced merrily as he considered her while he spoke, a tender warm glow rising in his cheeks. He had some plans as far as this game was concerned, oh yes indeed he did.

She shook her tiara playfully; the look on his face was so funny and cute. "Sounds good with me," she began swimming back to the lake edge, once she was on the beach she craned her neck around to face him, "You can be the seeker if you think you can find me," she said playfully. With that she shook, sending water droplets in all directions. With this done she vanished into the shadows of the forest to find a place to hide, she knew this was going to be so much fun. Moonlight seeking with her love.
